Sandygate Squared
Funded by Burnley Council
Working with three local primary schools, youth theatre members and Clarion Community and Burnley Municipal choirs, BYT will create a dynamic performance of well known songs combined with a new narrative drama piece. The performance will take place at Sandygate Square at 2pm on Friday 21st October 2011.

Healthy High
(Ages 11 – 16)
Funded by the Primary Care Trust
BYT will be working with four high schools in Burnley and Pendle to create 4 short pieces of theatre around different health issues such as smoking, alcohol abuse, healthy eating, sexual health and drugs. The school will pick the topic most relevant for their students and the plays will be performed both in school to younger pupils and at BYT.

Future Perfect
(Ages 5 – 25)
Funded by Lancashire CC and the Burnley Ward Fund
Future Perfect aims to work with a range of young people across East Lancashire. We are particularly interested in developing relationships with young people who would normally be reluctant to participate with us, but have expressed a desire to do so. We feel that in this way we can reach out to communities, and make a difference to young people's future success.

The Start Programme
(Ages 8 – 14)
Funded by The Prince’s Foundation for Children & The Arts, The Granada Foundation, Burnley Children’s Trust and Stocks Massey Bequest
Start is an education programme that is working with five schools from Burnley and Nelson. 600 young people have already been to BYT to see a piece of professional physical theatre by Angel Exit Theatre Company. This term will see more workshops and a piece of professional Shakespeare.

No Limits!
(Ages 11-19)
Funded by Aiming High
Performing arts project for young people with disabilities and learning difficulties. Fridays 6pm – 8pm
Over ten weeks the group will work with two professional practitioners to create a new and exciting performance piece combining movement, drama, voice, music and lighting. Places are limited to 12 young people so please book on to secure your place.
For children with complex health needs a parent or support worker must accompany them to all sessions.

Cut Short Year 2
(Ages 11 – 25)
Funded by The Home Office Community Fund
The Cut Short project is working with four youth groups in Burnley to create four short films around knife crime and gang violence. The end product will be a DVD that will be circulated to schools and youth groups across East Lancashire.

Arrow World Congress, Plymouth
Funded by Calico Housing, Oddies Bakery
and Burnley and Pendle Rotary Club
A group of 5 young people to Plymouth for the Arrow World Congress on 27th June - 3rd July. The young people worked with other young people from all over the world including Kosovo, Africa, Australia and Ireland.

Cut Short Year 1
(Ages 11 – 25)
Funded by The Home Office Community Fund
The first year of this project saw Burnley Youth Theatre work with 4 youth groups using Graffiti Art to express their thoughts, feelings and opinions about Knife Crime in Burnley. Working with a professional artist, the groups created murals with poignant messages about the dangers of carrying a knife and being involved in gang violence.

Put It Out
Funded by the Primary Care Trust
Put It Out was a piece of Theatre In Education about Smoking Cessation aimed at young people in school years 4, 5 and 6. Four professional actors worked together intensely for three weeks to create the piece. The show then went on tour to 10 local primary schools and received great feedback from teachers and pupils.

Holding The Key
Funded by Burnley Borough Council
Holding The Key was a project designed to explore the role that women can play in preventing violent extremism. Sessions took place at Sir John Thursby Community College and Stoneyholme and Daneshouse Youth and Community Centre. Writer Mandy Precious and Director Karen Barnes worked with the groups to create a script which was eventually performed to over 600 young people from all over Lancashire. Edinburgh Fringe Festival

In August 2010, BYT staff and 8 members of The Young Actors Rep Company went to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for three days. It was a great experience which gave the young people the opportunity to see some of the most cutting edge theatre, comedy and new writing.

Love Bugs
Funded by Mediabox and The Big Lottery Fund
Love Bugs was a project that brought together young people from all over the Burnley and Pendle community to create two short films about Sexual Health from the separate perspectives of boys and girls. The young people also created a poster campaign aimed at peer educating other young people about sexual health. The films and posters have been circulated to schools and community groups throughout Lancashire.

Project Access
Funded by the Burnley Children’s Trust
and Stocks Massey Bequest Fund
Project Access delivered drama workshops to local primary and secondary schools to give young people who may not normally access drama the opportunity to be creative. The project worked with over 600 children and young people and also provided a follow on workshop at BYT so that the participants were given the opportunity to work in our space and know that the youth theatre was open to them to attend on a regular basis.

Sponsored Sleepover
This Junior sponsorship event saw 30 children aged 6 – 11 come to BYT for the night. There were drama games, DVD’s, lots of toast and surprisingly lots of sleeping! All the children were sponsored to attend and the event raised around £500 for BYT.
24 Hour Sponsored Improvisation
This Senior sponsorship event saw 20 young people come to BYT for a full 24 hours. There was lots of improvisation and drama games before the group got focused and started to create their very own piece of original theatre. The group worked tirelessly through the night creating characters, scenes and finding costume until the final performance for friends and families at 6pm the following day. All the young people were sponsored to attend and the event raised around £400 for BYT.
