Current Projects
Edge of Life
Funded by the Home Office Communities Against Gangs, Guns and Knifes Fund
 
The first year of this 2 year project is working with young people from across Burnley who have been involved with previous community projects. They will create a piece of theatre around gangs and knife crime which will be performed in March 2012 to local young people.
 

Changing Futures Community Cohesion Project
Funded by Burnley Children's Trust in partnership with Curious Minds, Blessed Trinity RC College and Sir John Thursby Community College
 
This project has seen 30 young people from Blessed Trinity and Sir john Thursby come together to create a film which looks at the cohesion issues the two schools face including race, religion and uniform. The group have taken part in drama workshops exploring these issues and put their ideas into creating a film. The film will been shared with local schools and will have a resource pack to support teachers to tackle their own cohesion issues within the school. The project will culimate this term in a celebration event at Burnley Youth Theatre.
 
 

BYT@ Outreach youth theatre work
 
We are currently working in Barnoldswick, Reedley, Hesandford Primary school, and at the Blackpool Grand developing our youth theatre offer across the county.  Watch this space for details about a similar offer in Rossendale. Thsi work is supported by LCC.

Fleetwood
 
We are working with Chaucer Primary School as their school is re-designed, and re-built.  Artist and consultant Cath Ford is working with teachers, pupils and parents to enable them to impact on the final designs of the school.  This work is funded by LCC and is in partnership with Curious Minds.
 
 

Cherry Fold School, Arts Award
 
Artist Sue Reddish is working with us and Cherry Fold School.  Year 6 children are working towards an Arts Award bronze qualification.

Jigsaw Project
 
This project sees three youth theatres, including BYT come together to develop a piece of drama through digital means.   Bury Youth Theatre, Burnley Youth Theatre and Shift Theatre Darwin will come together for an initial meeting, and then with the genius that is Ollie Briggs, will use an online tool to meet, share ideas, and go away and create work that will, eventually, be brought back together and performed at BYT in the summer of 2012.
 
This project is in association with Proper Job Theatre Company.

The Start Programme
(Ages 8 – 14)
Funded by The Prince’s Foundation for Children & The Arts, The Granada Foundation, Burnley Children’s Trust and Stocks Massey Bequest


Start is an education programme that is working with five schools from Burnley and Nelson. 600 young people have already been to BYT to see a piece of professional physical theatre by Angel Exit Theatre Company. This term will see more workshops and a piece of professional Shakespeare.
